Opabinia regalis / OSIRIS-REx

In 2016, the OSIRIS-REx probe was launched to return a sample of asteroid 101955 Bennu, which it succeeded in doing by touching the surface of Bennu with an appendage that picked up material and stored it for its 2023 re-entry on Earth.

In the Middle Cambrian period, some 505 million years ago, Opabinia regalis was a small, soft-bodied animal with five eyes and a trunk that it used for grabbing tasty morsels.

While these two subjects seemingly couldn’t be more different, what they have in common is pretty interesting, if coincidental.
